Salvage Building Materials

We can locate Salvage Building Materials for your project nationwide.

Salvage Building Materials are generally anything taken from an Old Building that has been carefully deconstructed. Generally the building was in the way or deemed no longer strong enough to survive by itself, but its heritage artifacts can begin a new life as building materials for your project.

Beams

Today beams are generally taken from Old Warehouses and other Old Buildings, especially Old Barns, Old Log Cabins and Old Houses all over the country .

Beams. They come in countless species, mass and length. They are distinct according to their original creation and place of origin. Some Beams were laboriously pit sawn, some beams were “hand hewn” with an adz or broadaxe and some beams were milled at water driven sawmills or circular sawn.

Antique Flooring

Antique Flooring can be either “walked upon” flooring taken from an historic house OR flooring which has been selectively milled from the old growth, tight grained timber now found only in ancient beams.

Antique Flooring of various ages, widths, lengths and species is found all over the country, although various parts of the country have particular regionalisms which evolved in relationship to the growth habits of trees native to the area. Widths can be from 2” – 18” wide and there are also widths of up to 30"+ still around. Some historic periods actually favored less wide widths as being more sophisticated.

Used Bricks, Granite, Stone, Marble and Slate

Used Bricks are unique in size, color, texture, proportion and uniformity. Often they were hand made on site for a particular project in finite numbers and vary according to region.

It is wonderful to find used brick in a sizeable lot, as each batch created for a project often has its own unique aesthetic. Brick Pavers are a stronger form of used bricks and are used for walkways, stables and drives.

Salvage yards often have slate, granite, marble and cobblestones and decorated vintage brick decorative pieces taken from historic buildings. Slabs of slate and granite steps have that worn patina that comes from long term loving use by past citizens.

Cobblestones

Cobblestones are still available from the streets of some of our older cities. They have many advantages. They are set for very rough and heavy wear, they don’t get muddy in wet weather or dusty in dry weather and they have all the advantages of permeable paving and move with the ever shifting ground.

Cobblestones were once shunned as the silence of asphalt became popular, but the look and the sound are most charming.

Barn Siding

Barn Siding is prized for its rugged, weathered look. It can be re-milled for many uses. These days Old Barn Siding is being shifted to the interior for that weathered look.Hand-Planed Beaded Pattition Boards

Antique Decorative Lumber

There are often very fine and rare items which have been meticulously saved from endangered houses. One of the very rare items which still exists is Hand Planed Beaded Wall Boards

Horizontal Wainscoting

Generally used as vertical partition boards as room dividers or ceiling boards. Pictured on the left and below. They are used as horizontal wainscoting and stair enclosure.

We’re excited to find these materials for you. The earlier we locate these hand crafted items you love, the more fun you’ll have designing them into their new home.
